source: LASA ICT e-bulletin BAFTA Rocliffe New Writing Forum - Call for script submissions - posted 10.9.2010 area: Belfast deadline: 11 October 2010, 5pm dates: 12 November 2010
Northern Ireland Screen has teamed up with BAFTA Rocliffe to bring the New Writing Forum to Belfast on 12th November.
The BAFTA Rocliffe New Writing forum is both a platform for new writing, and a networking event. Created in 2000, the original format selects three ten minute script extracts - feature film, short film, television drama, sitcom or sketch.
The pieces are cast by a casting director and rehearsed by professional actors and directors on the evening. A narrator sets the piece in context and the extracts are then performed to an industry audience of producers, development executives, directors, actors and literary agents.
The benefits to a writer, new or seasoned, are multiple: hearing their work read by professional actors; a development focused discussion generated by the readings; exposure to and advice from experienced industry members; feedback from an audience and an invaluable method to test out new concepts and material.
This is an excellent opportunity for local writers, Northern Ireland Screen strongly encourage you to participate. Scripts are now being accepted, the closing date for submissions is 11 October 2010 at 5pm.

You are invited to participate in the artist Monica Ross' Anniversary - An Act of Memory, a public and participatory Recitation from memory of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, as part of September's Orduithe@Live@8 Programme in Galway.
This event will take place at 6pm in the Museum Square outside Galway City Museum on the 29th September 2010. Monica wishes to stage a diverse and multi-cultural recitation, featuring as many different languages and people from as many walks of life as possible. Each article of the Declaration will be recited by a different participant or group, in any language they wish. Participants are encouraged to choose an article that resonates with them in some way.
Live at 8 is a bi-monthly event of visual art, music, performance, film and other artforms held in Bar No.8. It is curated by a guest curator each month and performance artist and curator Andrew Mitchelson has created an amazing program of artists for Septembers Live @ 8 entitled ‘Orduithe’ (instructions in Irish). One of these artists is Monica Ross, a Brighton-based artist who works predominantly through performance. In her latest work, Anniversary - an act of memory Monica attempts to recite the entire text of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights 1948 from memory. Ross first attempted this in a performance entitled Rightsrepeated — An Act of Memory at Beaconsfield, London, as a personal response to the shooting of Jean Charles de Menezes by Police on the London Underground in 2005.
To date more than 170 people, reciting in more than 20 languages have contributed to the recitations in this way; more info about these collective recitations can be found here: http://www.actsofmemory.net/
Copies of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in over 300 languages are here: http://www.ohchr.org/EN/UDHR/Pages/SearchByLang.aspx
