A key part of ADAPT NI’s Disability Equality Programme is the No Limits! Arts Festival – a series of youth driven activities and events providing young people with the opportunity to explore what equality means to them in an innovative and creative way. If you are a School or youth organisation, your young people can get involved in the following ways:
- Arts Workshops: schools and youth groups can take part in arts workshops to explore concepts such as citizenship, inclusion and accessible environments through creative mediums. (further details below). - Show off your talent! In March we will be hosting a film showcase event (MovieHouse Cityside Cinema – 25 March) and an art exhibition (Golden Thread Gallery 22-27 March) showcasing films and art pieces created by young people of all abilities. Please send us your films and art work today – contact us for a registration form! Closing date for submissions is 17th February.
The No Limits! participatory arts workshops explore concepts such as citizenship, inclusion and accessible environments. Under the guidance of experienced artists, youngsters can engage with these fundamental issues using drama, animation, film and media as creative tools of expression. The aim of the workshops is for young people both with and without disabilities to recognise that disability does not mean inability. They will encourage all young people to embrace positive attitudes towards diversity at an early age, carrying this into adulthood and playing a significant part in influencing changes in attitudes throughout society. No Limits is developed in partnership with Fleming Fulton’s LILAC project. To find out more about workshops or sending us your work, please email info@adaptni.org or visit www.adaptni.org
No Limits is supported by the Lottery through the Northern Ireland Screens Commission, the UK Film Councils First Lights Initiative, Lloyds TSB Foundation, the Lilac Project, the Community Foundation for Northern Ireland and sponsored by MovieHouse Cinemas. ADAPT NI would like to acknowledge the support of the Arts Council of Northern Ireland.

Guardian article on amateur classsical music in the UK - posted 22.1.2010
Charlotte Higgins has written a wonderful account of amateur classical music making in the Guardian:
“Amateur music-making gets very little attention. Critics rarely review concerts by non-professionals, except in the case of those crack amateur choruses that perform with major orchestras, such as the CBSO Chorus. And yet the UK could be mapped out in a dense patchwork of amateur creativity.
“[A]mateur music-making is a treasured escape, rather than a job… The slow and patient acquisition of the skills needed to play an instrument; the almost inexpressible pleasure of doing, creating, playing: this is what makes amateur music-making so precious to the people who are lucky enough to be able do it. And the good news? It's never too late to start.”
